Hello! My name is Izzy Brown, it’s lovely to meet you!

I studied Theology at Bible College, and the JNC in Youth and Community Work. Through my studies, I found a passion, not only for discipling young people - but for tackling difficult topics with them.

The more I worked with young people, the more I understood that they wanted answers to their big questions. At first, I was reluctant to teach on these topics, and felt unequipped to do so.

I discovered my calling for ‘difficult’ topics at a young age - and felt frustrated that the Church seemed to shy away from them.

During my time studying, and working with other youth workers, I learnt there was a sense of anxiety around these topics, a fear that young people would bring them up, and a sense that as youth workers, they had a lack of knowledge or ability to respond.

I began researching, praying and learning about these topics, they included; pornography, LGBTQ+, mental health, women in leadership etc. I spoke to Church leaders, and tried to figure out why the Church remained so silent on these issues that we so desperately need to talk about.

I mentored two teenage girls during this time, and covered these topics with them, as scary as this was…they didn’t run for the hills, they became more and more curious and wanted to know more. They felt heard and understood, and they were more willing to hear about the rest of the Bible and deepen their faith now that their questions had been approached. They both got baptised, and I hope I helped them in their faith journeys.

I am not saying it is easy - it most definitely isn’t, but that is why I felt called to start Amidst Ministries. As I tackled living with a chronic illness in my personal life, I felt an itch to continue youth work, and creating these resources helped me continue what I feel called to. Some call my youth work approach ‘lacking in filter’, but I call it ‘speaking the unspoken’. The stigma around these topics ends here, if we don’t guide them - the world will…and that never ends well.
